Stop Managing the Middle: Why Scaling Coaches Need Unified Support

It started with a completely spontaneous idea during a very casual call: hosting a webinar together, mostly just for fun.

At the time, Belle—currently my business partner—and I were walking different paths, but we were working inside the same coaching business.

We were both deeply passionate about helping coaches scale, but we were operating in separate silos. That webinar was our chance to partner up and explore what it would actually look like for a coaching business to have its operations and creative support held by one unified team, instead of fragmented freelancers.

Finding Our Lanes

While pursuing my Master's degree in Food Science at the University of Tokyo, everyone assumed I would become a scientist, throwing myself into a lab from dawn until dusk.

But becoming a mother changed my entire paradigm. I realized I couldn't survive corporate hustle culture if it meant my kids were going to sleep with their grandma every night instead of me.

So, I quit. I became a virtual assistant, which is when I discovered my true genius was in operations. I loved taking chaotic backend systems and turning them into highly organized, beautifully personalized workflows.

But if you hand me a design? You will not be able to find me for days.

I would spend hours drowning in Canva. I would piece together fonts and colors, desperately trying to make it look premium, only to end up with a design that took half my week and still completely failed to communicate the depth of my work.

“Becoming a mother changed my entire paradigm. I realized I couldn't survive corporate hustle culture if it meant my kids were going to sleep with their grandma every night instead of me.”

Belle, the creative heart of Root & Rise, is my exact opposite.

She has been in the design world for over a decade. After starting with uninspired copy-paste work for a t-shirt company, she interned at an agency for $100 a month just to learn the craft. That grit took her to Singapore to study Communication Design, where she learned that good design isn't just about making things "pretty"—it’s about translating the deep, core essence of a business.

But the corporate agency world drained her. She remembers sitting on the subway on her way to the office, feeling such an incredible heaviness in her chest that she had to put on her headphones and physically dance just to hype herself up enough to walk through the doors.

She finally quit and start freelancing back then.

Her first freelance gig after quitting happened to be for the coaching business that I was working there.

At some point, she found herself helping with the backend of the business. She craved organization, but technical just weren't her lane. She would sit down to build a simple onboarding workflow and end up wasting the whole weekend, feeling like she was trying to assemble a train without actually knowing how a train works.

Belle learnt that good design isn't just about making things "pretty"—it’s about translating the deep, core essence of a business.

The Cost of Siloed Support

For years, Belle and I had been working horizontally inside the same multi-6-figure coaching business. I was handling the admin and the systems; she was the designer.

We watched firsthand what happens to a CEO when a business only gets one half right. You know the feeling: you either have beautiful branding with the wrong email sequence, or flawless automations with visuals that look completely disconnected from your brand.

When Belle first joined, she beautified the entire ecosystem. The front-end looked incredible, but the backend systems crumbled under the weight, leaving the team doing everything manually.

Once I stepped up to rebuild the systems, we could finally take a breath. But we still watched the founder acting as the accidental project manager—exhausting herself trying to hold it all together because everyone reported directly to her.

Then came our first joint webinar: "3 Essentials to an Easeful Launch for Coaching Businesses."

It was like magic. Belle took care of the creative while I handled the operational backend. Neither of us had to explain what we needed to the other; we simply knew.

Belle told me later that she felt a profound sense of safety in her nervous system. Everything was mapped out and handled seamlessly.

No long briefs. No translation meetings. The operational logic and the creative magic shared a single brain.

When we hosted that webinar, we showed up deeply nurtured, grounded, and fully present for our attendees because we felt fully held by each other.

The Birth of the Taproot Ecosystem

That effortless collaboration was the seed for Root & Rise.

We realized that when a scaling coach hires siloed freelancers—a VA over here, a designer over there—they are building a Fibrous Root system.

The roots spread out horizontally and stay close to the surface. On a sunny day, it looks fine. But the moment a big launch approaches, or the CEO needs to step back, those shallow roots get uprooted. The business shakes.

Fibrous Root Support system - the roots spread out horizontally and stay close to the surface. On a sunny day, it looks fine. But the moment a big launch approaches, those shallow roots get uprooted.

It starts with a missed email over here. The wrong date on a sequence. An outdated brand element. Suddenly, there is a 20-message-long Slack thread for a seemingly endless discussion over a simple inquiry. Everyone gets tired and frustrated.

Seeing this issue happen from launch to launch, we realized what scaling coaches need isn't more people on their team. They need the right structural architecture—one that pieces the moving parts together so the CEO doesn't have to stand in the middle holding it all up.

That's why we didn't build Root & Rise to be just another agency that adds more freelancers to your plate.

We built a Taproot support ecosystem.

A taproot that grows deep and straight down into the earth, merging operations and creative into one unified source of truth

A taproot that grows deep and straight down into the earth, merging operations and creative into one unified source of truth. When your business is anchored by a taproot, it stands unshakeable, no matter the season of growth or the storm.

...Because when life happens, your business should still rise and thrive on the foundation it was built upon.

We built Root & Rise so that scaling coaches can show up for their community exactly how we showed up for our attendees that day: deeply nurtured, grounded, and fully present. You deserve a structural architecture that pieces the moving parts together for you, so you can finally step out of the middle and step back into your zone of genius.

It is time to trade your shallow fibrous roots for an unshakeable foundation.
